Hankering in the heat

Folks, summer is a-blazin' here in Manila, routinely hitting 36C in the afternoons, and all I can think about are dresses. I know I've said before that dresses are a short cut and can be boring, but in this heat, they're all I can abide. I can't think of combining separates or wearing pants that'll drench my lower half in sweat or adding a vest for interest (shudder) in this heat. I just want to pull on an easy, lightweight dress, with a cardigan stashed in my bag for dealing with the office aircon.

My dream summer dress is: lightweight cotton sleeveless and knee-length, with some interest in the skirt but in a clean, non-frilly shape. I have these Polyvore pegs but unfortunately local retailers have not been cooperating in my search.

Summer dresses

So the other day, wilting in the heat, I dug out one of my old maternity dresses and stepped out the door.

Dress: Havin' A Baby (circa 2001); cardigan, Store With No Name (Bugis Market, Singapore); necklace, Girl Shoppe; Shoes, Zara TRF (on sale at just P595!!)

To update this dress, which in fairness is really lightweight and decent enough for work, I added a strong statement necklace and some contrasting pumps in the color of 2012, tangerine! Once I got into the office, on came my lightweight cardigan and I was ready to go!

Sorry for the blurriness, used my phone cam and edited it to fix the lighting.

How do you keep cool in the heat? And if you see any affordable dresses that fall under my pegs, let me know -- I'm so getting it!
