Music is a big part of my life - yep, went through the want-to-be-in-a-band phase in high school (and ended up official cheerleader for my bassist ex's band, called "Superego" appropriately enough) - and it's how I get through boring days, sad days, exercise days, happy days, long commutes, writing and general tuning-the-world out.
I listen to anything - from Abba to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin to Nicki Minaj - but I find I have a musical Constant: kind of melancholy, sort of wistful, sometimes bombastic or sentimental songs. Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to present to you:
The Sawi* Playlist
Anna Calvi, Desire
Pamatay lyrics: "The sound of love is beating like a fevered heart."
More songs from Bjork, Fiona Apple, Tears for Fears, Portishead and Nine Inch Nails -- clicky!:
Bjork featuring Antony Hegarty, The Dull Flame of Desire
Pamatay lyrics: "And through the downcast lashes, I see the dull flame of desire." BOOM
Fiona Apple's cover of Elvis Costello's I Want You
Pamatay lyrics: "It's the stupid details that my heart is breaking for... It's the way your shoulders shake and what they're shaking for. It's knowing that he knows you now after only guessing (I want you). It's the thought of him undressing you or you undressing..." (ANG SAKEEETTTT)
Tears for Fears, Memories Fade
Pamatay lyrics: What else but "Memories fade BUT THE SCARS STILL LINGER!"
Portishead, Glory Box
(I had NO IDEA this video would be this bizarre! Must've missed this on Alternative Nation)
Pamatay lyrics: "So don't you stop being a man. Just take a little look from outside when you can."
Jeff Buckley, Lover You Should Have Come Over
Pamatay lyrics: "Maybe I'm too young to keep good love from going wrong."
COVER YOUR KIDS' EYES AND EARS!
Nine Inch Nails, Closer
(Say what you will but that bass is the bomb. Love this song.)
Pamatay lyrics: *coughs* "I wanna feel you from the inside"
*sawi - Tagalog, means "slayed," possibly unrequited, full of desire, unfulfilled, frustrated etc.
Right. I think that covers the spectrum of sawi, doesn't it?
What about you? What music do you always listen to?
