Trick 'r Treat!

Taken October 31, 2012 at the office Trick or Treat. The eldest is Kurt Cobain-ing it while the youngest is a ladybug

Happy Halloween!

The office is all kitted out with decorations, we've gone shopping for candy and our team's doing a Zombie Preparedness theme. I kinda had way too much fun doing these posters for our room.

I love you, PicMonkey.

We had pre-Halloween festivities too. Last Saturday my sister and I took my kids and her baby sis-in-law trick or treating at her village. It was so much fun!

So a wizard, a mouse and an Avenger walk into a bar...
I'd never gone trick-or-treating before. Like, real, door-to-door trick-or-treating. Well, first off, trick-or-treat wasn't a thing when I was a kid. It was some imported American tradition that had yet to catch on for us middle-class young 'uns. In high school my friends started to have Halloween parties, but I still couldn't go...
I missed this all as a kid :(
You see, I wasn't allowed. My mom read Halloween was the Devil's own holiday and how evil it was, etc., so as Christians we shouldn't participate.

So every Halloween since then I've been home, not watching scary movies on TV, and not being able to sleep because, you know, evil is at its max, possible apparition alert, etc. etc.

Now that I have kids myself, my approach is different. I think making a big to-do about how this day is more evil than any other day and making it all about the ~*fear*~ is kind of the wrong way about it, you know? That way, evil wins! But if you make it about having fun! And candy! And dressing up! then I don't see the harm.

Like Hawkeye over here...

Or Minnie Mouse
I know, I know, Halloween has pagan origins. But so does Christmas. So do fiestas in May. Yes, Halloween is more problematically, overtly pagan. But...you know, true evil, evil perpetrated by humans to other humans, happens every day. Why should October 31 be any different? Maybe some heathens do have their festivities on that night. Maybe I'm being disingenuous.

I don't really know. All I know is that I don't like instilling a culture of fear in my kids. And if we really, truly believe that our God is a powerful God, the God of all days, including October 31, then why should we be afraid?

So...yes, we're going trick or treating. :)

Cute Minnie Mouse and cool Hawkeye!

I can't help but notice, your sister's kitchen is lovely. I also love their huge (living room?) windows!

Thanks Cris!

Yes, my sister's place is really nice! Her husband's a food stylist, so the kitchen was a huge focal point for them :D
