Rave on my mind

Tomorrow's our company Christmas party. It's always a big deal and a wonderful way to unwind, but the thing is, costumes? Are always kind of anticipated. Last year at our Music Awards-themed party I came as Alison Mosshart; this year our theme is...wait for it....

RAVE!

For me, raves will forever be associated by the 90s party scene...articles in SPIN about legendary Berlin club Sugar Sweet when I was too young to go out at night, or the iconic Eddie Boy Escudero shots of the late 90s/early 2000s scene at Malate or places like ABG's or Seven Eight Orange (which I also did not experience, because college in UPLB and then teenage pregnancy). So there's a touch of missing-the-moment-nostalgia for me. Anyway, when I think of rave outfits, I think of that 90s minimalist-meets-Japanophile-meets-color aesthetic, like this:

But when I Googled "Rave outfits," well, this is what I found:

Erm, I obviously haven't been going out for a very long time if lingerie + furry boots is the top thing to wear to raves.

For fun I also saved a lot of Club Kids photos. Now these are hardcore partyers!

My favorite photo of the lot! Post-Rave late night munchiieeesss!

I've wanted to see the movie based on this book, starring Macauley Culkin and Seth Green as NY Club Kids extraordinaire Michael Alig and James St. James. Alig apparently murdered a drug dealer in real life. So much for PLUR!
So looking at rave / club photos is fun to get into the spirit of things. But what am I going to wear? I'm torn between going the dark-ish route or the expected bright colors / Ecstasy! look. Stay tuned to find out!

Hahaha...we really come from same generation. My idea of a rave outfit is similar - like an anime character, like the clothes they sell in Defect (in Glorietta) and People Are People back in their early days.
